A tale of 200,000 Cities

As Worcester tipped over 200,000 residents by the 2020 census, a debate raged about “New Worcester” vs “Old Worcester.” The word “renaissance” gets thrown around casually and often about upscale restaurants or large private development projects and rarely about the day to day work and lives of everyday residents of the city. 200k Worcesters seeks to use art as a tool to explore the divides in how we see the city, but also the potential to work across these divides. The project aims to build dialogue and move beyond the idea of “two sides” to “many perspectives.” Launched with the support of the Worcester Arts Council, the pilot phase will commence in August 2023 with a series of workshops and a September showing of work.
